Kinsmen Lutheran Church invites local high school students and their parents to a free workshop on Wednesday, April 24 about preparing effective student resumes and college essays. Presented by Virginia L. Blackwell, an independent educational consultant with more than 30 years of experience in the field of college admissions, this informative seminar will help students develop a picture of themselves on paper, so college admissions officers can quickly understand the student’s accomplishments and experience. Virginia will be joined by her associate, Bethany Scott, who is a former University of Texas admissions officer. Together they will explain the importance of student resumes and college essays, how those documents are used in the application process, and what types of details to include. Bethany will then lead students through fun, interactive brainstorming exercises while Virginia meets with parents to talk about their role in the process. The workshop is open to the community. Admission is free, but registration is requested. For more information or to register, visit www.kinsmenlutheran.org.
